Error "A hard drive is missing" when performing file restore of VM

Last update date:

8/13/2020

Affected products:

Veeam Backup & Replication

Affected releases:

ALL

Fixed releases:

No fixed releases provided.

Description:

Challenge

The version of Veeam Backup & Replication you are on likely does not support the Windows drive type.

Cause

In older versions of Veeam Backup & Replication, we were unable to perform File Level Recoveries on drives with the GPT type or marked as Dynamic with a spanned volumes. If you are using the ReFS file system introduced with server 2012 to restore these volumes with the File Level Restore, Veeam will need to be installed on server 2012 as well.

Solution

Please make sure you are on version 6.5.0.109 and up of Veeam Backup & Replication.
