Lock 248 (or F8 in hexadecimal), is one of the unused locks between 243 and 255 (00F3 to 00FF hexadecimal), that is available for Dell use. Dell Support Engineer can place this lock if they plan a later drive addition, or any maintenance activity on the Symmetrix or VMAX storage array.
To address this issue, run the following command to determine if there is a lock on the storage array: symcfg -sid xxx -lockn all list -v To determine the lock types, and whether you can remove them, see: Dell article 71163, Symmetrix, and VMAX: Lock 248 on the Symmetrix array not allowing configuration changesDell article 61086, How to display and remove Symmetrix configuration or device locks In this case, article 71163 confirmed that lock 248 was set, and that the Configuration Lock 248 cannot be released even using the below option in the command: symcfg -lockn 248 release -force
