Symptoms
Issue is noticed after customer upgrades the FOS to v7.4.x. After firmware upgrade to FOS v7.4.x, CPU Utilization goes beyond 80%.
Cause
It was noticed that ViPR SRM was polling on the brocade switches using SNMP. Since FOS v7.4.x does not have Fabric Watch and rather the switch has MAPS to monitor and alert for events from the switch; it was determined that a combination of using MAPS and ViPR SRM with SNMP Switch Discovery was the cause for the high CPU Utilization.
Resolution
ViPR SRM released a Brocade Solution pack as of version 3.7.x. The Brocade Solution pack Discovers Brocade Switches using Brocades SMI, either Headless, without CMCNE or SMI Integrated with CMCNE. SMI-S metrics vs. SNMP metrics
The following reports are not available when configured with only SMI. The following reports need SNMP.
Inventory & Performance > Switches System Performance > Switches CPU (%)Inventory & Performance > Switches System Performance > Switches Memory (%) Inventory & Performance > Name Server DatabaseFC Switches Summary > > Ethernet Ports
If these Metrics are needed you can discover the switch with SNMP and only enable just this one capability for SNMP listed above. This will minimize the stress on the Brocade SNMP polling. Capability: BROCADE_FCSWITCH_SYSTEM
