Symptoms
Customers with PowerEdge R640 servers could encounter detection issues when attaching USB 2.0 (hi-speed)/3.0 (super-speed) devices to the front USB 2.0 ports. No error events are logged. Devices are not detected when plugged in.The issue extends to all leveraged platforms of R640:
VxRail E560 and E560F
VxFlex R640
VxFlex integrated rack R640
The most common USB devices are thumb drives. Dell Engineering is unable to test all makes and models. The following have been noted as having the highest observance of detection failure:

HP x796w USB Key (Product ID: E940)
HP x5000m USB Key (Product ID: 7240)

Lexar USB Flash Key (Product ID: 0CD1)
Sandisk Cruzer Blade USB Key (Product ID: 5567, 5597)
Sandisk Ultra USB Key (Product ID: 5581, 5591)
Toshiba TransMemory USB Key (Product ID: 6545)
Note: Detection failures may not be limited to USB thumb drives.
Cause
Speed negotiations between USB 2.0 (high-speed)/3.0 (super-speed) devices and USB 2.0 ports
Resolution
BIOS version 2.21.2 will be released in the March block of 2024. This BIOS includes performance enhancements for USB 2.0 connectivity.The following have been prescribed as workarounds by Dell Engineering:1: Try a different USB device.2: Test the USB device by plugging them into available USB ports on the back of the server.
