Symptoms
A VxRail upgrade fails with the following error (where is the short name of the host that has the issue):
"Upgrade failed. - [] IPMI FRU 17 unrecognized result (see logs) Pre-check of the update completed but an error was found. See checklist for detail."
Running the following command either shows no output or invalid output:
/opt/vxrail/tools/ipmitool fru print 17
Cause
VxRail node special identifier information (FRU 17) has incorrect or empty data.

Contact Dell Technical Support for assistance in addressing this issue.
