Symptoms
NVMe devices not claimed by PowerPath post upgrade from ESXi 8.0 to ESXi 8.0U1.
Cause
In ESXi 8.0, NVMe is supported only in SCSI transition layer whereas from ESXi 8.0U1, End-To-End NVMe is supported. So older versions of PowerPath/VE will not recognize newer End-to-End NVMe architecture.
Resolution
PowerPath/VE 8.1 is needed to work with ESXi 8.0 U1 in order to claim the NVMe devicesPowerPath/VE upgrade procedure is changed from 8.0 to 8.0 U1 as follows (considering 8.0 to 8.0 U1 is a major upgrade):Steps:1. Uninstall the older version of PowerPath/VE 8.02. Upgrade the ESXi 8.0 to ESXi 8.0 U1.3. Install PowerPath/VE 8.14. Restart the host(applicable only for offline package)
