Symptoms

In the Avamar AUI, add a Virtual Machine into Avamar and browse a folder of the vCenter.The operation fails with the error cannot find Vmware Entity by path.If you click "View Details", the event detail shows:Summary: MC REST API operation failedError Message: "cannot find Vmware Entity by path"Data: attributes: nullThis behavior occurs in the Avamar AUI only. The Java UI works correctly.

Cause

There are special characters in the folder name.These characters may cause issue:#&%^/\|{}[]+

Resolution

You may choose one of the following to work around this limitation: When browsing, toggle Host/Cluster and select the VM directly. Do not directly browse the folder.Use the Avamar Java UI to add the VM.Change the folder name inside vCenter by removing or replacing the special characters.
