Display settings drop when using the USB Type-C connection
Owners of Dell U3821DW monitors may experience a settings drop in performance when connecting through the USB Type-C connection on your monitor. The color depth can drop to 18 bits (from 24), or the refresh rate can drop to 30 Hz (from 60) in the native resolution.
You can see this under the following conditions:
You are using a Type-C to Type-C USB cable to connect the monitor to your computer.You are connecting to the last generation or older of Dell computer.
Note: This issue is not seen on the latest generation of Dell computers.

Cause
The U3821DW monitor sets two lanes as default for a Type-C port. The bandwidth is insufficient to see the full performance at the native resolution on Type-C ports which support DisplayPort 1.2(HBR2).
The computers graphics drop the color bits/depth or the refresh rate to maintain the native resolution. Ideally the Type-C port on the computer supports DisplayPort 1.4(HBR3) or better to have sufficient bandwidth for two lanes.

Resolution
You can configure the monitor settings to support the best image.
Change the High Date speed to High Resolution:
Bring up the Monitors On-Screen Display.Go to Display.Browse USB-C Prioritization.Change to High Resolution.
