When updating the firmware are you getting an MST install error? Are you seeing an error when attempting to perform a firmware update to the TB18DC dock? The errors may vary in consistency but will usually show that there is an error locating or updating the MST hub part of the firmware install. Note: Currently the Precision 7530 and 7730 mobile workstations are the only systems compatible with the TB18DC Thunderbolt dock. (Fig.1 MST Hub install errors)
Dell's Engineering department have investigated and determined that the issue is directly related to the Intel Graphics driver.
Work through the following steps to resolve this issue Does your system come with Discrete or Onboard graphics? The system has discrete (There is a second GPU built or added onto the PC) graphics: Enter the BIOS by pressing the F2 key at the Dell Splash screen Navigate to the Video page and select Switchable Graphics Change the check mark to Discrete Graphics Controller Direct Output Mode Click Apply and Exit to boot back into the operating system Go to step iii The system has onboard Intel Graphics: Remove the current Intel Video driver and all of its components Open Device Manager by right clicking on the Start Menu and selecting it from the list that appears Navigate to the Display Adapter and open it Right click on the device and select uninstall device from the menu Check the box next to Delete driver software for this device and click uninstall Restart the PC Uninstallation does not remove any customizations done via the display extension INF. To remove the .inf use the following command in PowerShell with admin rights: (The part in brackets is the information that is specific to your particular PC.) pnputil/delete-driver Go to the Dell Support Site Enter the service tag or express service code to get drivers specific to how the system shipped Alternatively, you can choose your system type from the product list to get a general list of drivers for that system Click on the Drivers and Downloads drawer in the menu Ensure you have the correct operating system set Select Video from the category dropdown Locate the Intel UHD Graphics 600 P600 series Modern Driver Ver.A07 or newer Click on the download link and follow the online instructions Restart the PC and connect to the dock Install the latest version of the dock firmware: Go to the Dell Support Site You can choose your dock type from the product list to get a general list of drivers for that dock Click on the Drivers and Downloads drawer in the menu Ensure you have the correct operating system set Locate the Dell Thunderbolt dock TB18DC Firmware Update Utility Ver. 1.0.8 or newer Click on the download link and follow the online instructions If you have discrete graphics then go back into the BIOS at this point and re-enable the switchable graphics Check the issue is now resolved
