The following article provides information about resolving a BitLocker/TPM (Trusted Platform Module) error if the motherboard has been replaced with one using a different TPM mode. BitLocker error is seen after replacing the Motherboard on systems using the Nuvoton 650 module Systems ordered with switchable TPM's will encounter an error that activates BitLocker if they have had the motherboard replaced and the new motherboard has the TPM set in opposition to what was in use on your PC. Note: The only systems that are affected, are those with the Nuvoton 650 (65x) module that supports both TPM 1.2 and 2.0. (Figure.1 The startup options on this PC are configured incorrectly. Resolution You can resolve this error using the following steps: Disable Windows Auto Provisioning Open a Command Prompt/Powershell application as an administrator (You will need administrator access on your PC): Right-click on the start menu and select the appropriate choice from the menu that appears Type in the following command and press the Enter key: Disable-TpmAutoProvisioning Reboot the PC Using the F2 key at the Splash screen, Enter the BIOS: Navigate to the Security page Navigate to the TPM Put a check in the box next to Clear TPM Click on Apply and then Exit to boot back into the Operating System Go to the Dell Support Site and download the latest version of the TPM firmware available: Select Security from the Category drop-down Download the Dell TPM 1.2 Firmware Update Utility (64 bits), Nuvoton TPM, version 5.81.2.1_V3 follow the onscreen instructions and be aware, a restart will be required to finalise the install Once the system has rebooted and is back in the operating system, open up the Command Prompt/PowerShell application as an administrator again: Type in the following command and press the Enter key: Enable-TpmAutoProvisioning Reboot the PC Enable BitLocker Further Information: Differences between TPM 1.2 and 2.0Troubleshooting guide for TPM Back to Top
