Symptoms
Issue Description
Upgrading from Scaleio using the Gateway Installation Manager fails with communication errors.
Scenario
When upgrading ScaleIO from an earlier version to a later version using the Gateway Installation Manager, the upgrade fails during the Configure Phase with communication errors.
Symptoms
The error message from the installation manager states:
Command failed: Could not connect to 172.17.10.25,172.17.10.71,172.17.10.70. Ensure that the relevant service is running and that the server can communicate with the node.
Impact
The upgrade cannot be continued, leaving the cluster only partially upgraded.
Cause
There are 2 possible root causes here:
The affected process (MDM,SDS,TB) is not running on the specified host. The Gateway Installation Manager must be able to communicate with all the IP addresses in the cluster. It will need access to all the subnets and be able to talk to the components (MDM,SDS,TB) that have IP addresses on those subnets.
Resolution
Workaround
Restart the affected process on the host to make sure it can communicate properly, then click "Retry Failed" in the Installation Manager.Add the required network interfaces and/or IP addresses so the Gateway Installation Manager can reach all IP addresses within the cluster. a. If the Gateway is on a different network, verify there are no firewall issues blocking communication.
