This alert pertains to Storage Center OS (SCOS) versions prior to 7.X. It contains specific information related to system features and or functionality. Alert: Volume mappings may become misaligned from the desired mapping configuration as the connectivity state changes between the Storage Center and the Server over the period of the Storage Center’s operational life. When a major change is made to a server object (e.g. modifying the OS type, adding or removing an HBA, adding or removing a server from a cluster object, etc) the Storage Center re-evaluates the existing volume mappings to ensure all mappings are inline with the desired configuration and mapping requirements of the server os type. During this re-evaluation process the Storage Center will seamlessly and automatically realign these mappings when such a change to a server object is made. However, if misaligned volume mappings are bound to a server cluster object, a change to the cluster object may result in the volume mappings being inadvertently removed. This may result in the loss of access to the volume and require the volume to be manually remapped to the cluster object in order to restore service to the volume. Affected Versions: Storage Center OS versions prior to 7.X could be affected.
Volume mappings on the Storage Center are misaligned and in an abnormal state
Workaround: Dell Tech Support can identify if any volume mappings on the Storage Center are misaligned and in an abnormal state which could trigger the behavior described in the above alert. The misaligned mappings can be addressed by the customer during a maintenance period by un-mapping and re-mapping the volume to the server cluster object. If no maintenance period is available, and a change to the server is required, Dell Support can apply a temporary workaround to prevent misaligned volume mappings from being removed during the volume mapping re-evaluation process. Resolution: Storage Center OS 7.X and higher provides additional safety measures to the volume mapping re-evaluation process that prevents a loss of service.
