Symptoms
This article describes what happens when the Core server stops unexpectedly in Dell Data Protection | Enterprise Edition due to an .net crash.

If no SQL errors are present in the core or compatibility logs, the cause may be due to an .net stops responding. This type of message shows up in the Application Event Viewer log:

Resolution
This is fixed in the v8.3.1 Rollup Patch and is no longer an issue in v8.5 and later.
Implementing monitoring on the Core Server notifies when services stop and is recommended. Monitoring can be set to restart automatically however; the service potentially stops again if the SQL connection has not been restored.
If it is an .net crash, request a patch for the specific version of Enterprise Edition from support.
