Dell has selected hardware for Fingerprint authentication to ensure that the users biometric stay secure as possible. This is done using the ControlVault hardware on Dell platforms.
The ControlVault platform is offered in most modern Dell Latitude and OptiPlex desktops. This chipset provides enhanced security for biometric inputs along with contactless smart cards. With this additional chipset, there are delays added to the authentication process while the hardware processes the capture, extract the features of the presented credential, synchronizes between the operating system, and then validates a comparison of the fingerprint against a known valid sample.
Advances that are made in our 2016 models may cause a delay in the capture of a fingerprint causing error such as unable to read the fingerprint or finger removed too quickly when attempting to log in with Fingerprint authentication.
Control Vault Firmware and Driver combo 4.4 and newer reduce the delay. Dell suggests customers update their Firmware and Drivers to the latest.
