Deprovision and Uninstall Dell Data Protection Access.If Dell Data Protection Access is installed now or has been installed in the past on your computer, before installing the Encryption client, SED, or Advanced Authentication, you must deprovision the Dell Data Protection Access-managed hardware and then uninstall Dell Data Protection Access. If Dell Data Protection Access has not been used, you may uninstall Dell Data Protection Access and restart the installation process. Deprovisioning Dell Data Protection Access-managed hardware includes the fingerprint reader, smart card reader, BIOS passwords, TPM, and the Self-Encrypting Drive.Note: If running Dell Encryption products, stop or pause an encryption sweep. If running Microsoft BitLocker, suspend the encryption policy. Once Dell Data Protection Access is uninstalled and Microsoft BitLocker policy is unsuspended, initialize the TPM by following the instructions that are at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753140.aspx.
Resolution
Do the following steps before installing Dell Encryption:
Deprovision Dell Data Protection Access-Managed Hardware.
Go to Dell Data Protection Access > Advanced tab.Select Reset System. This requires that you enter any provisioned credentials to verify your identity. After Dell Data Protection Access verifies the credentials, Dell Data Protection Access performs the following actions:
Removes all provisioned credentials from Dell ControlVault (if present)Removes Dell ControlVault owner password (if present)Removes all provisioned fingerprints from integrated fingerprint reader (if present)Removes all BIOS passwords (BIOS System, BIOS Admin, and hard drive passwords)Clears the Trusted Platform ModuleRemoves the Dell Data Protection Access Credential Provider
Once the computer is deprovisioned, Dell Data Protection Access reboots the computer to restore the Windows default credential provider.
Uninstall the Dell Data Protection Access software. Once the authentication hardware is deprovisioned, uninstall Dell Data Protection Access.Launch Dell Data Protection Access and perform a Reset System.
This removes all Dell Data Protection Access managed credentials and passwords and clears the Trusted Platform Module (TPM).
Click Uninstall to launch the installer.
When the uninstall finishes, click Yes to restart.
NOTE: If using a self-encrypting drive, removing Dell Data Protection Access unlocks the SED and removes the Preboot Authentication.
