Symptom
Backups of Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) devices may fill the root partition of the file system of the Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC).
Backups initiated by the FMC of either FTDs or the FMC itself may not be appearing at the remote storage location as expected.
The FMC GUI may constantly show a "System processes are starting" message instead of presenting a login page.
Conditions
The FMC has been configured to store backups to remote storage.
A backup of FTDs has been initiated from the FMC (either manually or via scheduled task).
Workaround
Ask Cisco TAC to provide a procedure that will do the following:
* with remote storage not mounted to the FMC, manually copy any FTD troubleshoot files that may be present under the /mnt/remote-storage/ directory (check subdirectories) off of the FMC via SCP/SFTP if the backups are still needed
* while remote storage is still not mounted to the FMC, delete everything under /mnt/remote-storage/ from the FMC
* confirm that FMC GUI access is now available
* resolve any remote storage mounting/connectivity issues on the FMC GUI to ensure that the remote storage will properly mount
Further Problem Description
If one discovers that the action of saving remote storage settings in the FMC GUI is not actually saving the settings, check for defect CSCwd86876 and use the workaround from CSCwd86876 if necessary.
