Symptom
A Catalyst 9600 supervisor may experience an unexpected, silent reload and return with the reload reason of "CpuCatastrophicError" under the 'show version' output.
Conditions
A Catalyst 9600 switch will generate no core file, no system report, and will not generate any logs indicating why it is going down.
The only symptom seen is a reset reason of: CpuCatastrophicError within the 'show version' output.
Further Problem Description
Note - The vast majority of switches that experience this issue will see an unexpected reload only once, and are expected to remain stable after the event. The recommendation if seen is to continue to monitor the switch for stability as if it were a parity error.
This defect provides a hardening mechanism designed to help prevent the unexpected reloads in the first place for this specific reset reason.
If your switch creates a crash file, system-report or any other log file during an unexpected, it is not experiencing this issue and should be investigated separately.
This fix provides additional hardening to what was done on CSCvy15243. Customers are encouraged to upgrade past both this fix and CSCvy15243.
Additionally, this defect addresses the hardening fix specific for the 9600 platform. For 9300, 9500, and 9500H, these platform specific fixes have been addressed via CSCvr77861.
