Symptom
"hw-module breakout module" configurations are rejected on ports 5 and above when switch is booted on 16.12.5 or 16.12.5b causing the affected interfaces to go down/down. The following error is observed when trying to re-add the configurations:
%PLATFORM_BRKOUT-3-BRKOUTCMD_SYNCFAILED: Failed to send Breakout command to hardware.
The issue should be seen with CAT9500-12Q as well.
Conditions
Cat9500-24Q running 16.12.5 with breakout cable usage and "hw breakout module" interface configuration.
Workaround
No workaround is possible with the image.
Further Problem Description
Cat9500-24Q on 16.12.3a
[+] "hw-module breakout module" configurations are accepted without an issue.
Cat9500-24Q on 16.12.5
[+] "hw-module breakout module" configurations disappear for all ports 5 and above on first boot for upgrade. When trying to add the configurations back to the interfaces the following error is thrown:
%PLATFORM_BRKOUT-3-BRKOUTCMD_SYNCFAILED: Failed to send Breakout command to hardware.
[+] The issue persists through reloads of the switch. Downgrading to 16.12.3a allows the configurations to be re-added.
Note: The issue is not seen on 17.3.3
