Symptom
Device running IOS-XE may experiencing high memory utilization under flash or crashinfo directory.
%PLATFORM-4-ELEMENT_WARNING: Switch X R0/0: smand: X/RP/0: limited space - copy corefiles/switch-reports out of flash:core & crashinfo: directories. crashinfo: value 100% (xxx MB) exceeds warning level 80% (xxx MB).
Following log may be observed at the crash time:
UNIX-EXT-SIGNAL: Segmentation fault(11), Process = Crimson flush transactions Process
Engage TAC to confirm the issue
Conditions
tracelog file system is full under crashinfo:/bootflash: directory.
Potential triggers are:
- Delete the crashinfo by issuing "delete /f /r crashinfo" command.
- Rotation operation of the tracelogs files either manually or automatically
Workaround
Only for the condition in which the files are deleted manually the workaround is to avoid deleting crashinfo:tracelogs directory. Instead, delete the files within it.
Further Problem Description
The crash occurred after deletion of crashinfo:tracelogs directory and the subsequent failure to recreate the directory.
