Symptom

A Cisco CSR1000v may experience a ucode crash due to buffer management issues at the driver.

Conditions

This has been observed on CSR1000vs with DPDK 18.11.0 but are not limited to this. Some known triggering conditions involve reconfiguring of interfaces (speeds, MTU, etc.) while traffic is actively being forwarded through the interface. This has also been observed on CSR1000vs hosted in AWS.

Workaround

There are no known workarounds. In the cases where CSR1000vs may see a boot loop, it's possible to recover the router by detaching the interfaces from the host level.
