N9K-C9396PX will boot into loader prompt if IPV6 address is configured on mgmt0 interface under I7.7 release. Manual boot to I7.7 with 'boot' command or boot to the previous release will ends up with following message: Image valid Image Signature Verification Failed. Boot failed Error 9: Unknown boot failure At the same time, we are seeing a lot of hex-decimal output during the reload process before entering the loader prompt.

Symptom

The device does not boot and stops in boot-loader prompt. At same time, the reload process has some hex-decimal information. The issue only happens in 7.0(3)I7(7) image and not applicable for any other release. Also it is not applicable for Nexus 30xx, 3132, 3172, 3548 products

Conditions

N9K-C9396PX running under nxos.7.0.3.I7.7.bin. At same time, with IPV6 configured under mgmt0 interface.

Workaround

Unconfigure IPv6 address from the mgmt interface before upgrading to 7.0(3)I7(7) If already configured and the issue is hit with 7.0(3)I7(7), please load older image from loader prompt - loader > boot
