Symptom

A Cisco IOS-XE device (routers & switches) may see an issue when trying to perform a software reload of the device. The following may be observed when the 'reload' command is issued: %IOSXE_RP_CFG_NOT-3-BOOT_VAR_NOT_SET: Boot variable either does not exist or buffer is too small.Keeping it blank. This defect is to make a check for only the configuration register field is set accordingly.

Conditions

This is applicable to XE devices.

Workaround

Best practices entail that if the configuration register field is set to 0x2102, that the boot variables are set accordingly instead of left blank.
