Symptom
When replacing an RP or LC on an NCS5500, or NCS6K, or ASR9K-64 router running IOS XR, the LC or RP may take a longer than expected time to complete the full boot process and become "OPERATIONAL SW_INACTIVE" via "admin show platform" output.
Conditions
This may occur on an NCS5500, or NCS6K, or ASR9K-64 router running IOS XR (eXR)
Further Problem Description
Although there is no workaround, the LC or RP will complete the boot process, including syncing the correct IOS XR software version, rpm packages, and any SMU's, after a period of approx. 30-60 minutes. The complete time may vary depending on:
a)if the new or RMA LC or RP has the same mini iso version as what's running on the NCS5500, or
whether it has a different mini iso image, and then has to sync up to the correct mini iso version image
2)the number of rpm packages & SMU's that are in use, the more packages, the longer the boot time
This may impact new LC's or RP's being inserted in an NCS5500, or NCS6K, or ASR9K-64 as well as any RMA's where a LC or RP is being replaced on an NCS5500, NCS6K, or ASR9K-64
During the LC or RP boot, the "admin show platform" output may be "OPERATIONAL SW_INACTIVE" for the HW and SW states, respectively until the LC or RP completes it's boot sequence.
This does not impact 32-bit IOS XR (cXR)
