Symptom
System messages similar to the following are observed on the NCS5500:
RP/0/RP0/CPU0:fretta16s-002#0/FC5/ADMIN0:Jul 12 11:16:29.624 : esd[1881]: %PKT_INFRA-FM-3-FAULT_MAJOR : ALARM_MAJOR :SWITCH_FDB_ERR_E :DECLARE :0/FC5/FC_SW:

Conditions
This behavior is timing dependent. The Ethernet Switch Driver process (ESD) occasionally flushes (clears) the Control Ethernet Switch's Forwarding Database (FDB) when it determines a need to clear stale FDB entries. There is a small window of time where this error can occur during the flush operation.
Workaround
There is no workaround for this behavior. No action is required by the user when this error occurs. The ESD process recovers from this error by resetting the Control Ethernet Switch and restarting itself (the ESD process).
Further Problem Description
When this error occurs, the Control Ethernet Switch is reset and the ESD process is restarted. When the switch is reset, the links on all switch ports will go down. As a result, the switch or endpoint at the remote end of any active links will select a redundant path in order to maintain Control Ethernet Connectivity.
