Symptom

After kron performs a write of the startup-config (e.g. 'write mem'), it is locked indefinitely (i.e., the startup-config and running-config are unavailable): switch# show run Unable to get configuration. Try again later.

Conditions

kron is not returning control of nvram after performing a write of the configuration. This occurs on a Sup7E running 15.0(01)XO.

Workaround

Reload the switch. To avoid this condition, use EEM with the timer event to schedule the required task.
