On HPE platforms running VMware ESXi 6.x/7x, certain NVMe Solid State Drive (SSD) models listed in the Scope section below, may change the PCI ID (Device ID) from 2701 to 2700 after updating to firmware version HPK3. When this issue occurs, the VMware Skyline Health Diagnostic Tool will display a warning message for every affected NVMe drive, as shown below. Additionally, certain VMware VSphere operations such as vMotion, will not function properly. NVMe drive PCI ID 2700 is not listed in the Virtual SAN (vSAN) Hardware Compatibility Guide (HCL). Important: NVMe drives updated from HPK2 (or earlier) to HPK3 will experience this issue. NVMe drives shipped from factory with firmware version HPK3 are not affected by this issue. This issue can be safely ignored in platforms running Linux and Windows. To avoid this issue, or to resolve if it has already occurred, install NVMe drive firmware version 4ICSHPK4 (or later).
