Symptom

Line cards may fail or show inconsistent statuses following a power outage or fluctuation. Specifically, after power restoration, some line cards may display an "ok" status while others may be stuck in an "other" status when using the "show module" command, and they may not appear in the "show inventory" command output.

Conditions

The issue occurs sporadically and only impacts line cards; supervisor modules are not affected. The predetermined power supply priority for line cards is disregarded during this issue, leading to any line card potentially being stuck in the "other" status. Although the bug CSCvw81138, which had similar symptoms, has been resolved in releases 17.3.4 and 17.3.5, this issue may still manifest in any IOS version not listed.

Workaround

Manually reseat the line cards. Perform a power cycle on the device or linecard.
